How much impact can be achieved in online marketing with minimal resources—provided you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone when it comes to communication? The Bonn Midwifery Clinic joined us in this experiment. At the heart of it: an open approach to taboo topics surrounding pregnancy and the postpartum period. The focus: genuine effectiveness rather than mere reach.
Strategy: Visibility by Breaking Taboos
Especially in the sensitive field of healthcare, people often avoid addressing the actual problems. The challenge: Topics such as perineal tears, afterpains, or incontinence are rarely discussed in public—and for many of those affected, they are associated with feelings of insecurity or shame.
We deliberately placed these taboos at the center of our campaign. Instead of traditional feel-good imagery, we opted for provocative headlines and a design that clearly stands out from the mainstream medical approach. The guiding principle: “DON’T panic.”

Targeted Online Marketing: Small Budget, Maximum Relevance
With a budget of just 500 euros (€300 of which was allocated to Google Ads and €200 to Instagram Ads) and precise geo-targeting around Bonn, we precisely targeted relevant keywords and audiences. The focus was on topics that are rarely featured in traditional advertising campaigns.
Results after 2 months:
- +100% more phone inquiries
- +40% more appointment bookings
- 10% click-through rate on Google Ads
- 149,797 impressions, 44,436 users reached on Instagram
- +64.7% new followers on the HAB Instagram account
The figures demonstrate not only reach but also real impact: Numerous inquiries explicitly referred to the taboo topics discussed.
Impact and Lessons Learned
The case study shows:
- The courage to be clear and precise targeting are the most powerful tools for effective nonprofit marketing.
- Mini-budgets force you to focus —and encourage creative solutions that are often overlooked in the mainstream.
- Community building works when communication takes place on an equal footing and relevant topics are not left out.
